Skywatching with a small 4-inch reflector then (above) and providing a lecture on observational astronomy to a group of Science Educators in the Province of Occidental Negros, and in other parts of the country, were all part of my endeavors in pursuit of Astronomy Education.
The small 4-inch reflector was purchased by me from Mr. Bruce White, the American PCV who was then assigned in the Mt. Canlaon Natural Park in the 1980s.
In most of the cases, the more portable 3-inch refractor instrument of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical  & Astronomical Serivces Administration (PAGASA) that has been on Loan Agreement with the PAS for the Bacolod Chapter was in use until it was taken back (in 1995?).

The Astronomy Educator . . .

Several Seminar-Workshops on "Basic Observational Astronomy" have been initiated and conducted by the PAS with me as the Principal Lecturer during the decades of the 1980s and the 1990s, in collaboration with the local Offices of the Education Department (DECS) and the Department of Science & Technology-R6.

Among the venues in Bacolod City where the series were held included: the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R); the Maritime Department of the West Negros University; the Negros Mission Academy; and at the DECS Training Center (see photo above).

Elsewhere outside Bacolod, the educational Seminar-Workshops were also held at the Agricultural College in Panay; the (defunct) Divine Word University in Tacloban City; Sagay City National High School;  and at  the Technological University of the Philippines in Talisay City;
The month-long Province-wide Summer Science Training for Educators held in 1987 by the Department of Education, Culture & Sports (DECS), Provincial Office, also included the subject of Astroomy, and the lectures were held on the various District Centers all over the Province, while the annual Science Camp Program of the Department of Science & Technology-Region 6 were held in Roxas City (Province of Capiz); Bacolod City and Pontevedra (Province of Occidental Negros).

ASTRO-FAIR EXHIBITION

A series of astronomical exhibitions have been set-up in various parts of Western Visayas Region by the PAS-Bacolod Chapter, such as the one in the photo (above) during the Provincial Science Fair held at the Bacolod Arts Center (BAC) at the City National High School in Bacolod City in 1980.

Another has been set-up for exhibition at the Science Fair during the National Science Week celebration by the Department of Science & Technology (DOST)-Region 6 in Kalibo, Province of Aklan, in 1987.
It was during that time that the Regional Director of the DOST-R6 at the time, Dr. Savallboro, viewed my exhibition and immediately offered me employment on a contractual basis (1987 - 1988).
